Effect of extension rate and gauge length and tensile behaviour of ring and air-jet spun yarns
A comparison of the yarns spun on MJS and ring spinning system shows that both the tenacity and breaking elongation are higher for ring-spun yarn at all extension rates and gauge lengths. With the increase of polyester fibre content in blend, tenacity and breaking elongation increase with greater impact on air-jet spun yarn in majority of..
Detecting infrequent weak spots in yarn packages
Lenzing instruments have developed a device that can detect weak spots in packages of yarn. Developed jointly with the Austrian Textile Research Institute the instrument, called Speedy, yarns at a rate of 1200 m a minute.
Assessing the life of a flocked yarn exposed to sunlight (Russian)
The results of lightfastness tests on upholstery fabrics from flocked yarns are discussed. Both laboratory tests and direct sunlight tests are used. Flocked yarns in different colours are tested. A correlation model is set up which makes it possible to predict the life of upholstery fabrics produced from flocked yarns.
Modelling the yarn tension during rewinding using an inertia-type yarn tensioner
A method based on a mathematical model is presented which makes it possible to determine the yarn tension during winding when inertial-type yarn tensioners are employed. A tension diagram is produced per traverse.
Inverse creep in some textile yarns
Some exploratory work on creep and inverse creep in nylon 6 monofilament, polyester multifilament yarn and wool and cotton spun yarns has been presented. It is observed that the extent of creep and inverse creep differs from material to material and depends on the inverse creep differs from material to material and depends on the initial ..
Glass fibre yarn
This article describes how a texturized glass fibre, recently developed by Owens Corning, called EB8 can be sized with chemicals that are not removed by conventional glass finishing techniques. The company says that the yarn combines the traditional properties of E-glass with improved corrosion performance and has good resistance to heat ..
Hollow polyolefin fibres
A porous fibre can be made by melt-spinning a mixture of polyolefin resin and paraffin wax, stretching the fibres and then heattreating them to remove the wax. According to the inventor the fibres that are produced are chemically stable and can incorporate a variety of absorbents. They can be used in filters for removing substances dissol..
High performance fibres. III: Kevlar aramid fiber
Kevlar aramid fiber is based on a polymer compositions which contains para-oriented chain sigment. The para oriented chain configurations imparts lyotropics liquid crystal behaviour to its anisotropic solution to give rise to a high strength, high modulus fiber of Kevlar aramid. This article describes the fibre, its products, applications..
Differentially dyeable nylons
In this article the developoment of differentially dyeable Nylon in the fibre stage to give attractive fancy shades is described. These fibres are produced by incorporating certain chemicals during the polymerisation of caprolactum. The paper briefly describes the additives used in the production of such Nylons and the details of the proc..
Affordable aramid fibre has high modulus
Akyo Nobel Aramid Products has introduced an aramid fibre variant, Twaron 2200, which is claimed to bridge the gap between intermediate-modulus aramid fibres and aerospace grade high-modulus materials. As Twaron 2200 is produced in one step it offers an economic alternative in a number of applications requiring high-grade engineering mate..
