LATERAL DEFORMATION (LD) OF SLIVER IN ROLLER DRAFTING ZONE.
The general properties of the LD of sliver and its relation to drafting force were investigated. Both phenomena were recorded simultaneously at several drafting conditions. The coefficient of variation for LD curves demonstrated the same tendency as that of the drafting force curves for drafting conditions. LD can thus be considered along..
METHODS OF SPINNING IMPROVEMENT IN JAPAN.
High humidity in cotton opening rooms, laydown according to growth areas, automatic opening, slow throughput speeds, good housekeeping, good evenness values, and slow roving speeds all contribute to produce the highest quality roving possible. High quality roving enables spindle speeds to attain 16,000 to 18,000 revolutions per minute, wi..
RAW MATERIALS SELECTION IN COTTON SPINNING -- A CONSTANT COMPROMISE BETWEEN QUALITY AND COST?
The relationship between cost and quality in selecting raw cotton for spinning has been redefined as a result of new parameters and specifications. For example, opening and cleaning machinery is now capable of processing inferior cotton, thus prompting an accompanying shift in the grading system. Although spinnability is ultimately the mo..
HIGH PERFORMANCE CLEANING INSTALLATION FOR LINKED SYSTEMS.
Electro-Jet's LS-1 is a patrolling cleaner with automatic reversing motion for spinning machinery. The operation of the blower and suction hoses is described. The LS-1 co-we-mat has a detector that sends the cleaner to the end of the machine during doffing. The LS-1 ASW cleaner is used on linked spinning/winding systems in which the winde..

RESISTANCE OF FRICTION SPUN YARN TO ABRASION AND TO REPEATED EXTENSION -- OF RING -- SPUN AND ROTOR-SPUN YARNS.
Blended polyester/cotton yarns (70/30 and 50/50) were spun on the DREF-3 friction spinning machine as well as on both ring and rotor spinning machinery. These yarns were then tested for resistance to abrasion and repeated extension. The samples varied in linear density and twist. Resistance to abrasion and repeated extension was low in fr..
DETERMINATION OF YARN BREAKING LOAD AT VARIED SPEED OF STRETCHING.
Indices of the yarn breaking load, calculated at various stretching speeds, were found not to be applicable in predicting the yarn breaking load during the quick loading on the loom. 4 refs.
IMPACT OF PLY ON COTTON YARN CSP.
Test were performed on 10s, 14s, and 20s count cotton yarns to study the relationship between ply and CSP. There was a steep increase in CSP up to 3-ply, then a gradual reduction in increments of CSP from 4-ply to 9-ply. For finer counts, the increase in CSP after plying was slightly higher than in the coarser counts. 1 ref.
ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED EFFECT YARN SPIN TESTER.
A versatile laboratory effect-yarn spinning machine is described. Two different fiber types can be run at the same time because the machine features two segments, each with six spindles, which can have different swivel supports and different draft roller settings. Computer controlled setting enables large sample quantities, production of ..
MACHINE LINKING.
The latest production equipment for spinning mills relies on the direct linkage of the ring spinning machine and automatic winder, making possible higher operating speeds and product quality in a more compact machine. World textile industry leaders are cooperating in the fabrication of the linked machinery. The advantages of the linkage i..
