폴리테트라플루오르에틸렌 (PTPE) 섬유는 강도는 별로 강한 섬유는 아니나 용융온도가 400℃나 되고 내열성이 커서 방화복을 만드는데 쓰인다. 거의 모든 화학약품에 대한 저항성이 있어 거름포로 쓰이며, 전기 절연성이 좋아 전선 피복에 쓰인다. 또 다른 물질이 달라 붙기 어려워 인조 혈관용으로도 쓰인다.
