미농무성(USDA)은 2011/12년도 세계 면화 생산, 소비, 수입 및 수출량을 예측한 보고서를 발행하였 다. 이 보고서에 따르면 면화 생산량은 125 백만 베일을 기록하여 몇 시즌 만에 처음으로 약 5백만 베 일 정도 공급량이 소비량을 초과할 것으로 예측하였다.
