직물의 결점중 넵은 염색된 후에라도 그 주변 직물과의 염색성 차이로 인하여 더욱 눈에 잘 띄게 된다. 본고에서는 직접염료로 염색된 면직물에 존재하는 넵을 수산화나트륨과 액체암모니아를 사용하여 여러가지 조건을 변화시켜 가면서 머서화처리를 함으로써 색상변화가 일어나지 않으면서도 이러한 면직물의 결점을 위장할 수 있는 방법을 제시하고 있다.
