Dielectric absorption and molecular mechanisms of the initial stages of the dissolving of cellulose in N-methyl morpholine-N-oxide [NMMO]

The title mechanisms are studied by using dielectric spectroscopy. The dissolving of cellulose in NMMO is controlled by interaction between the primary hydroxyls of the cellulose and the NMMO molecules, which results inthe formation of complexes. This influence is supported by studies on a model system comprising triphenylmethyl cellulose doped with NMMO and a system consisting of cellulose, dimethyl formamide and lithium chloride.
