Use of environmentally-friendly solvents to extract cotton, polyester and blends thereof

A working group set up by the TEGEWA association has veen considering since 1989 the best way to extract cotton, wool, silk, regenerated cellulose, polyester and acrylic fibres for recycling without causing environmental problems. Various trials have been held using different combinations of solvents. Acetone and t-butylmethylether emerge as environmentally-safe solvents for extracting cotton from used materials for recycling pruposes.
