Indonesia - An Omen of Success in 1994.

Indonesia's textile and apparel exports reached $6 billion in 1993, which is approximately the same amount as exported in 1992. Exports, however, wee forecast to reach $7 billion. Due to protracted recessions in the developed countries, exports from Indonesia declined in second half of 1993. During January-July 1993, exports increased 25 percent to $3.5 billion compared with the same period a year ago. Indonesia's range of exported products is increasing, including yarns, fabrics, apparel, and knitwear. Apparel exports accounted for 50 percent by value of all exports from Indonesial According to Indonesia's SIxth Five Year Plan, exports are forecast to increases to $20 billion by 1999. Indonesia is expected to accomplish its goal by develiping fiber, yarn, and fabric manufacturin gprocesses. A tight money policy, however, has suppressed investments in machinery recently.
