Switzerland Abroad continues to Grow.

The Swiss textile machinery manufacturing sector continues to perform well internationally. Output by these companies is greater at their subsidiaries based on other countries, such as the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom, than in Switzerland. Currently, these companies control about 25 percent of the world market. Spinning machines performed best in 1993, particularly those from Rieter and Saurer. The sale of looms and other weaving equipment performed worst, experiencing a decrease in exports of approximetely 18 percent. Exports to the United States continued to be the largest in volume. Growth in exports to Uzbekistan and Canada were the strongest, both at over 200 percent. The sector experienced reversals in exports to Egypt, South Korea, and Pakistan.
