Adsorption on activated carbon is one of the most cost-effective methods of controlling VOC emissions. The method is capable of recovering a range of pollutants, including toluene, heptane, hexane, carbon tetrachloride, acetone, ethyl acetate, methyl ethyl ketone, naphtalene, and methylene chloride. To plan an effective adsorption system, the designer considers such factors as the exhaust volume; the temperature, humidity, and pressure of the exhaust air; composition and concentration of VOCs; required recovery efficiency; quality of recovered solvents; and the presence of contaminants. Recent research has improved steam recovery techniques and recent research has improved steam recovery techniques and explored the use of alternative adsorbents. 1 ref.
