AMTEXT is developing technology that will allow fabrics to be automatically inspected for minute defects and flaws during the manufacturing process. AMTEX plans to hve such a system ready for in-plant testing by September 1995. The project, called the Computer Aided Fabric Evaluation (CAFE) project, is expected to result in the availability of higher quality lower priced fabrics for domestic and foreign mardets. CAFF integrates sensor technology and software directly into the manufacturing equipment, providing manufacturers with immediate inspection and date feedback. The technology is expected to improve th quality and delivery of domsetically produced fabric an will have a significant impact on the preseration of jobs for United States textile workers. Project funding in the first year will come from government and industry sources and will total $8.2 million. The first test systems will be designed for the inspection of gray goods. Inspection systems for yarn, knitting and printed gray goods are planned for in-plant testing by mid 1998.
