An examination of the adsorption of organic chlorine compounds by activated carbon and its regeneration by supercritical cabron dioxide focused on the adsorption of trichloroetylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), and o-chlorophenol (OCP) from sample waste effluent. Analysis showed that activated carbon loaded with TCE, PCE, or OCP was readily regenerated by supercritical carbon dioxide at 35 degrees centigrade and pressure of 200 kilograms per square centimeter. The time of regeneration ranked in the following order: TCE > PCE > > OCP. In the case of OCP, supercritical carbon dioxide regenerated the activeated cabron mush more efficiently than did liquid carbon dioxide. 11 refs.
