In Japan, the supply of Tencel products cannot keep pace with demand. The popularity of Tencel lies in its environmentally friendly processing method and the soft, comfortable apparel in which it is used. Courtaulds pioneered the development of an environmentally friendly production process for the manufacture of rayon fibers. Its efforts resulted in Tencel fibers. Courtaulds contacted Yoshitsugu Omori about the possibility of using Tencel in high quality, comfortable apparel. Omori formed a team of experts in various technical areas to study the fiber. The team then developed apparel that took advantage of the properties of Tencel. Unlike cotton, Tencel does not wrinkle, shrink. or stretch, and unlike nylo and polyeter, it breathes. As a result of its research, Omori's team wrote The Tencel Guidebook, which comprises strategies for marketing the fiber.
