Herbert J. Wright has developed a warp knit cotton covering material that ca be used to wrap cotton bales without contaminating the cotton. The coverin gmaterial is air permeable and allows the raw cotton to breathe, which minimizes the danger of mildew within the bale. The material is made of open end spun cotton yarns, should be sufficiently dense and opaque to protect the contents, and should possess similar tensile and tear strengths in all directions. The material is formed into a tube with one open end. A nonwoven fleece can be fed into the warp knitting zone and incorported into the final structure, thereby yielding a stronger convering material. The warp knit cotton fabric bears United States patent 5,215,191.
