Roof cooling systems are capable of significantly decreasing the investment and operating costs of a plant's air conditioning system. The principle on which these systems are based is the absorption of heat energy by water as it evaporates. Water is able to absorb over 10 times the amount of heat that R-22 refrigerant is able to absorb. The advantages of using water as a coolant are low costs and recyclability. The objective of a roof cooling system is to acieve maximum cooling with a minimum quantity of water. During the summer, the roof is generally the largest source of heat on commercial and industrial buildings. The roof cooling system dissipates this heat before it enters the building. The design of the system is extremely simple, consisting of sprayheads that provide complete roof coverage.
