Pipes, pumps, and valves are critical components in pollution control systems. Optimal selection is necessary for safe and efficient operations. Selection depends on the composition of the fluid, the stresses to which the system is subjected, and the placement of the system. Pumps move liquid through the system by one of four operating characteristics: capacity, head, power, and overall efficiency. Valves are capable of controlling flow rate, diverting flow, preventing back flow, and controlling or relieving pressure. Strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance are the critical properties of pipes. A directory lists companies that supply pipes, pumps, and valves. Organization of the directory is by the type of pump, pipe, or valve.
