Nylon 6 recycling

The possibility of recycling nylon 6 is discussed. The chemical composition and structure of nylon in general and nylon 6 in particular are described. The main uses of nylon 6 are synthetic fiber, film for food use and technopolymers. Nylon 6 can be recycled from products consisting of 100 of the same polymers, but it is more difficult to recycle products containing different types of polymers. A simple system of recycling nylon 6 for a low-value end use is re-spinning. Another method is depolymerisation which makes it possible to reclaim the caprolactam, the chemical used in the manufacture of nylon 6, for repeated use.
