The effect of softening of jute fibre under different combinations of the number of pairs of rollers in the softener machine vis-a-vis different piling hours has been studied on sacking warp and weft qualities. The physical and biochemical changes in the fibres at their varius parts and, the spinning performance and yarn characteristics are studied. The results are analysed and the optimum conditions for softening of jute fibre are suggested.
