The structure of a composite core-spun yarn is claimed. The yarn is in strand form and includes an isolated core material which may have a hazardous characteristic. The yarn may be used in woven or knitted fabrics for apparel products, in industrial fabrics, for braiding, in cordage, or for nonwoven fabrics. There is a basic core member, at least one core containment barrier from a material having a first melt temperature, an adhesive component associated with the basic core component and the core containment barrier, and a fused fibre layer formed by the heat fusion of the adhesive layer and the core containment layer. As a result the yarn demonstrates flexibility sufficient to permit it to be subjected to conventional manufacturing processes. IPC D02G A41D.
