OTEMAS 1993 was notable for its excellent attendance by both exhibitors and visitors and the large scale of many of the exhibits. Business appeared to be relatively good despite the continued world recession. However, there were relatively few major technological developments introduced. About 45 percent of the exhibits related to the spinning sector, about 25 percent to weaving, and about 6 percent to knitting. OTEMAS 1993 was notable for a relative decrease in automated models because the major market for this exhibit, Asia, has low cost, unskilled workers who perform better with manually operated models. An overview of the exhibits includes descriptions of knitting and warp knitting machines, drawframes, rotor spinning machines, bale-to-sliver lines, friction spinning machines, air jet spinning machines, quick style change systems for weaving, terry fabric looms, electronic monitoring systems, shedding devices, and narrow fabric lines.
