World cotton production in 1994-1995 will be 85.8 million bales, 9.7 million bales more than in 1993-1994. The production forecast in creeased by 1.2 million bales for the United States, reflecting increased yields and a greater area under cultivation. The production forecast for China was increased by 500,000 bales due to increased are under cultivation for spring and summer cotton. Improved producer prices in Brazil increased the area under cultivation and will boost production by 2000,000 bales. Reduced irrigation water will reduce yields and production in Australia by 200,000 bales. A slight increase in production is likely for Mexico. Turkey will achieve a net balance between cotton imports and exports. Indonesia will continue to rely heavily on cotton imports from the United states to supply its growing textile industry. Potential flooding due to heavy monsoon rains threatens the cotton crop in northern Pakistan.
