The life cycle of a fabric product comprises production, distribution, end use, and disposal. The production process offers excellent opportunities for recycling. Fibrous waste produced during spinning, yarn and fibrous waste produced during knitting and weaving, and fibrous waste produced during knitting and weaving, and fabric wastes produced during cutting are reusable. Properly designed packaging can be reused for different purposes or, after cleaning, reused for the same purpose. Old fabric products, including apparel products, are often reused as second-ahnd goods. If the fabric is no longer serviceable, it can be reclaimed by tearing and reintroduced into the production chain. Examples from the apparel, carpet, automotive, and spinning industries illustrate specific recycling problems and techniques. 7 refs.
