This volume contains brief but concise details on flax and linen. The history and origins are discussed briefly, before details are given of the fine structure and chemical composition of the fibre. The was in which the fibre is obtained is examined. Spinning, sizing and fibre properties are considered, as is yarn dyeing. Weaving and dyeing of woven fabrics are looked at. Chemical degradation problems are noted. Flax fibres are examined with respect to hemp and ramie. The book concludes with an alphabetical index and a selected bibliography.
