The emphasis of the cotton breeding program at Natural Cotton Colours is to improve the color range, fiber quality, and yields of naturally colored cottons. The breeding program works extensively with two cotton species: Gossypium hirsutum and Gossypium barbadense. To prevent contamination, crossed plants are grown in an isolated region of Arizona. The breeding efforts have resulted in substantially increased fiber lengths and an expansion of the color range from dark browns to include greens and other fibers that are the color of wood.
