Modern computerized machine and testing facilities have tremendously increased speed, accuracy, and reliability in the production and testing of textile products. State-of-the-art instruments available to estimate cotton fiber quality characteristics include the high volume instrument and the Micromat tester. High volume instrument testing estimates fineness, length, strength, elongation, maturity, and color grade. The Micromat determines fiber fineness and maturity. For wool fiber characteristics, the image analyzer, which is a microscope interfaced with a computer, is now in use. Yarn testing instruments include the autosorter for yarn count, the electronic twist tester, the computerized tensile tester, and the high speed evenness tester. Fabric instrumentation, such as the tensile tester, hydrostatic head tester and bursting strength tester, are easy to use and eliminate manual error.
