This article examines the ecological effect of textiles. Textile ecology is divided into three areas, production ecology which is concerned with the effect of production processes on people and the environment, human ecology which refers to the effect on human health of textiles worn near to the skin or which are found in the home, and disposal ecology which refers to the disposal of textile products or their recycling. Each of these areas is studied, and the effect on the manufacturer is examined.
