Lenzing obtains its lyocell cellulosic fibers through an environmentally friendly solvent spinning process with N-Methyl-morpholine-N-oxide, an organic solvent. Lyocell fibers possess a higher tenacity than either polyester or viscose fibers. Lyocell's wettability and water retention values are intermediate between those of cotton and viscose fibers, but the wet modulus is higher than cotton or viscose. Lyocell fibers exhibit a propensity to fibrillate during hydroentanglement. Finishers manipulate this tendency to produce lyocell fibers with a very soft hand. The high tensile strength of hydroentangled lyocell webs makes them attractive for use in technical fabrics.
