The recent previews of fabric collections for autumn/winter 1996 reveal that developments in fabric technology have generated a deluge of innovative textures, finishes, and blends. The substantial price hikes in raw wool have stimulated fabric manufacturers to experiment with a variety of wool blends to contain costs, and executives at many mills predict a resurgence in wool in winter 1996. Popular wool fabrics on view at fabric trade fairs included wool crepes with textured effects, wool blended with nylon or viscose, polyester/wool blends for both men's wear and women's wear, and several wool/acetate blends for soft suitings in checks, boucles, and three dimensional textures. In association with the International Wool Secretariat, Du Pont will launch a Wool Plus Lycra campaign to promote the use of wool/Lycra spandex blends in knitwear.
