An apparatus for forming and dispensing chopped fibres from tows comprises a pumping unit, a cutter mechanism connected to the inlet of the pumping unit, feed means for feeding a first and a second tow into the cutter mechanism, a sensor for sensing the feed rate of the two tows, and a control means for receiving a signal from the sensor and for operating the feed means to vary the feed rate of the tows to the cutting mechanism, so that a constant feed rate of chopped fibres is emitted for the discharge outlet of the pumping unit.
