Hoechst Trevira has developed its Trevar aramid fibre, which is a polycondensation product. The solvent-spun aramid yarn is made using N-methyl-pyrrolidine (NNP) solvent which allows a one-step production route. During production the filaments are exposed to 450℃ and then drawn in multiples of their original length. Two versions of cord based on Trevar are examined, type 101 is used for packing materials and for mechanical engineering, while type 106 is the braided version, used in ropes, tension cables, composites, sewing threads, fabric and even concrete reinforcement.
