ASTM method for detrmining free formaldehyde in emulsion polymers

The reduction of formaldehyde in emulsions used as nonwoven fabric binders is desirable to reduce the irritation airborne formaldehyde can cause to eyes, nose and throat. ASTM D5910 provides a consistent approach to detemination of formaldehyde in emulsions. It has been tested by a group of emulsion manufactures and approved as an industry standard method. The method is designed to measure free formaldehyde in emulsion as supplied without distrubing formaldehyde equilibria in the emulsion.
