J. G. Boswell Cottonseed Breeding recently introduced El Dorado, a high quality Acala variety developed specifically for cultivation in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Four years of testing denmonstrated that El Dorado yielded as well as Maxxa cotton in the southern and western portions of the valley. The fiber and spinning properties of El Dorado cottons, however, were superior to Maxxa cottons. Combed 50/1 yarns spun with El Dorado cotton possessed improved elongation, break factor, and evenness, and lower nep counts than combed 50/1 Maxxa yarns. 2 refs.
