Waste reduction at source is considered as a means for protecting the enviroment from various types of effluents released in wet processing. The techniques examined in this report include: quality control of dyes and chemicals; inventory management; conservation and optimization of dyes and chemicals; modifications to the processes used; equipment modifications; water conservation; and recycling with attendant recovery. The legislation imposed by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board is discussed and found to be even more stringent than that of many European countries and the United States.
