HIGH TENACITY POLYESTER AND NYLON FILAMENT MARKETS IN NORTH AMERICA.

The most important North American market for both high-tenacity polyester filament yarns and high tenacity nylon filament yarns is the automotive market. Weak automotive sales since the late-1980s have damaged this market, but new automotive uses for high-tenacity yarns are emerging. The high-tenacity polyester and nylon markets for tires, seat belts, narrow wovens, ropes and cordage, mechanical rubber goods, coated/laminated fabrics, and sewing threads are analyzed. The major North American high-tenacity fiber producers (Akzo, Allied-Signal, Du Pont, Firestone, Goodyear, Hoechst Celanese, and Monsanto) are profiled. The demand for high-tenacity polyester is likely to grow with an increase in passenger car sales; however, the demand for high-tenacity nylon is likely to decrease.
