SOME COMPLEXITIES IN THE RELATION BETWEEN FIBER PROPERTIES AND YARN QUALITY

A great deal of research has been conducted to determine the relationship between fiber properties and such yarn properties as strength, irregularity, and defects. Fiber length, fineness, and bundle strength are the most powerful influences on yarn strength and the spinnability of cotton. Fiber finences, fiber length, and short fiber content are the major influences on yarn irregularity. Micronaire value, trash, and short fiber content contribute to yarn defect of fiber properties on yarn quality as the count of the yarn varied. Another study emphasized the importance of micronaire, short fiber content, and trash content on the appearance of the yarn. Results of these studies are tabulated. 2 refs.
