Courtaulds has begun production of Tencel, a solvent-spun cellulosic fiber. It will produce the fiber at a rate of 20,000 tons per year at its plant in Mobile, Alabama. The manufacturing process is environmentally friendly, according to company representatives. Courtaulds has invested considerable time, effort, and money into developing markets for Tencel in Japan, Europe, and the United States.
