Yellow sticky traps were used during two cotton growing seasons to monitor aduit whitefly populations at two locations in the Nawabshah district of Sindh Province. The object of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the traps in monitoring whitefly populations. Population trends were similar in all four locations in both seasons (1987 and 1988). The horizontal traps caught more adult whiteflies than did the vertical traps. The height at which the traps were set significantly affected the number of adult whitefly catches per trap. A trap set at 3 feet above ground caught the most whiteflies. Traps set at 5 feet above ground caught the lowest number of whiteflies. Yellow sticky traps were found to be an effective tool in monitoring adult whitefly populations. Data derived from the yellow sticky traps will be used in Pakistan's integrated pest control program. 12 refs.
