The cotton industries in Africa, including Tunisla, Morocco, Francophone Africa, Sourth Africa, Uganda, and Kenya, are reviewed. Tunisia has singificantly increased production since 1981, with the aim of supplying 25 percent of domestic needs by 2000. Production in Morocco is down because of drought and a decrease in guaranteed prices. Low international pilces have had a negative effect on Francophone Africa. The cotton industry in South Africa is in a state flux for a number of reasons: a decline in mill use, drought, and poor prices. The Ugandan cotton industry is reviving after years of civil war and government neglect. Privatization of the cotton and textile industries in Kenya is predicted to increase production.
