Crop protection in cotton growing is regarded as controversial. Residues and ecolabels are discussed. Although the area uder cultivation is decreasing, the yield shows an increase. Insect damage is assessed. Yield losses are shown to be high. Insecticides are examined. Biological and chemical controls are noted. Genetic engineerig is considered. Examples of integrated pest management are given. Pesticide-resistant insects are discussed. Organic cultivation is shown to be a catchphrase on frequent occasions.
