Researchers conducted trials to determine the properties of Lenzing's lyocell fibers and potential applications in spunlacing. Lyocell fibers feature good tenacity, elongation, absorption, and fibrillation properties. Processes involved in the manufacture of lyocell fibers are an environmentally friendly alternative to cotton growing, which uses large quantities of water for irrigation. Potential applications for Lenzing's lyocell include paper, filters, geotextiles, medical textiles, hygienic textiles, and coatings. 6 refs.
