Researchers studied high density polyethylene (HDPE) contamination in wool packs. Fibrillated tapes and tapes with two broken ends were the most common faults. Tape length distributions suggested that many tape faults were created during automated core sampling. Researchers processed 16 kilogram lots of wool seeded with various types of HDPE contaminants to determine the efficiency of removal during processing. Most cut tapes removed in carding were removed intact at the first two burr beaters. The amount of fibrillated tape removed during carding was length dependent. 55 refs.
