Courtaulds' high tenacity regenerated cellulosic fiber Tencel offers properties equal to or better than cotton. Tencel fiber properties include good wet and dry tenacity, good shrinkage properties, a fibrillated structure, resistance to chemcial and mechanical damage, and affinity for dyes. Tencel fabrics offer excellent and unique drape due to fine fibers that increase in diameter by 35 percent when wet and return to their original fine state when the wet fabric dries. The fibrillation properties of Tencel offer interesting fabric surface finishing effects. Allowing Tencel fabrics to shrink; minimizing fabric tension; and using lubricants, dry beating, and tumbling can enhance the drape of Tencel fabrics.
