Development in flax/hemp processed for improved comfort

Flax and hemp can be grown in all Euorpe providing a perfect alternative crop for countries with food overproduction. Both plants can be grown in a geographical zone much larger than cotton providing income for rural areas. Flax and hemp supply eco-friendly fibre for the textile industry together with other valuable products for food, paper, currency, cosmetics and pharmaceutical markets. All these products are biodegradable and do no harm to nature in any step of their production, use or disposal. The main product of flax/hemp is fibre, with perfect comfort properties. Comfort providing fibres (mainly via hydrophilic properties) which will be in demand in the future. This article discusses the new developments in the textiles industry and the latest innovations which have shifted textiles made of linen or/and hemp towards the apparel sector.
