The current situation in the Italian silk industry is discussed including silk reeling, spun-silk and discontinuous fibre spinning, throwing, weaving and the trade in silk products. Statistics are presented for 1996 on the production, import and export of fresh cocoons, raw silk waste, tops thrown yarns, spun silk and noils and woven fabric and on the import and export of silk products for 1994, 1995 and 1996.
