The two groups of bicomponent or composite fibers are conjugated fibers with continuous structure along the fiber axis, and polymer blended fibers that always lack a continuous structure. Conjugated fibers include self crimping, thermal bonding, electroconductive, antistatic, light conductive, water absorbent, and splittable fibers. Basic conjugated fiber structures include two layer side-by-side and sheath-core structures. Splittable fibers consist of multilayer structures for microfiber products. Microfibers have a tickness of less than 0.3 dtex. Discussions cover wood grain multilayer fibers, the principles of layer multiplying, multi-island type fibers, and split multilayer bicomponent fibers.
