plasma polymerization is used to modify the surface of carbon fibers and to improve the interfacial adhesion between carbon fibers and epoxy resin. carbon fiber is used as the substrate, acrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate are used as the monomers. the effects of different reaction conditions (reaction time, power, the vapor pressure of the monomers) are discussed. after being treated with plasma, the surface of carbon fibers have a layer of plasma polymerized film. the characteristics of the surface are analyzed using esca and sem. the wettability of the polymer film is measured using the contact angle method. the surface adhesion between fibers and resins is tested using the microbond pullout method. the results show that the interfacial adhesion between fibers and resins is improved using the plasma polymerization method
