the authors presents the results of a study carried out by the solar energy council in early 1990. the study assessed the potential for renewable energy resources and technologies to contribute to the energy needs of victorian manufacturing industry. of the renewable resources, solar thermal, geothermal and biomass offer the most potential to contribute to industrial energy needs. the food processing, textiles and cement products industries were found to be the most suitable industries due to a combination of factors such as location, energy profiles and current energy sources. the study identified the need for energy efficiency improvements in all industrial sectors as a prerequisite to renewable energy development. the principle recommendations of the study include an action plan for vsec to develop the identified potentials
