electrochemical surface treatment of carbon fibers (toray t 300 6k fibers) has been studied by an original continuous process the authors have investigated the electrolysis conditions and especially current densities by means of a cathodic nickel deposit which may, in certain conditions, simulate the electrolytic oxidation. the heterogeneity of the electrolytic treatments has been shown by the quantitative determination of nickel deposited at the periphery and at the centre of the fibre bundles. the measurement of the mechanical properties of both fibers and their composites has been systematically studied as a function of the degree of surface oxidation, measured by ecsa, and active sites formation. interfacial properties may be interpreted as a function of these two parameters
