the enzyme electrode-type sensor has previously been proposed for continuous in vivo monitoring of glucose concentration in diabetes. a description is given of a novel configuration of this sensor based on simple geometrical considerations that can detect glucose over a broad concentration range at very low oxygen concentrations. in the is design, a bilaminate membrane is placed directly over a plate oxygen sensor. the membrane is composed of an outer oxygen-permeable hydrophobic layer and the immobilized enzyme layer, which is adjacent to the oxygen sensor. both the membrane face and edge are exposed to the sample. the principle of operation of the sensor is detailed and experimental results are presented
