ir-ft spectroscopic study of surface structure of quartz fiber

the spectra of original and modified quartz fibers with specific surface areas of 1-5 m/sup 2//g have been measured. the position and intensity of the absorption bands of molecularly adsorbed water (3420 cm/sup -1/) and silanol groups in the fine pores (3650 cm/sup -1/) are changed by chemical modification, vacuum-thermal treatment, or deuteration with d/sub 2/o hydrothermal treatment or treatment with aqueous solutions of nh/sub 4/oh or nh/sub 4/f reduce the surface area of the quartz fiber, and lead to the development of ultrapores
